Georgie Haynes

Throughout my life, I’ve been lucky enough to call the Newcastle and Maitland area my home. Fresh out of high school, I worked as a trainee receptionist for a small business in the RTO industry. While my boss told me she believed I had the potential to become a manager, at the time I thought that was her way of telling me that I was bossy! Little did I know where my path would take me.

Whilst I enjoyed the customer care aspect of reception work, I decided the RTO industry wasn’t for me. A friend told me that she’d got a job as a dental assistant. I heard the pay wasn’t so bad and she didn’t get saliva on her uniform too often, so I decided to study for my Cert III in dental assisting. For several years, I went on to work in dental practices as an assistant and receptionist, building valuable skills and knowledge on how to create the best experience for patients.

I stumbled upon the advertisement to work at Platinum Dental by chance. Having worked alongside Victoria at a previous practice and hearing her dreams of what her future practice would look like, I knew that it was worth a shot.

At first, I was hired as a dental assistant, but taking my customer service skills into consideration, Victoria wanted to see how I took to a reception role. Within a few months, I was promoted to practice manager but with no prior management experience, boosting my confidence enough to feel as though I could do this role justice took a little bit of time. With a lot of encouragement and support from Victoria, Gareth, and the team, I can now say that I’ve taken a headfirst dive into the role.

I feel very privileged to not only have been given this opportunity but also to work in a supportive practice that highly values the team and their patients. Being located in the stunning Nelson Bay only adds to the perks!

When it’s time for me to wind down after a busy week at the practice, you’ll find me out enjoying a cheeky cocktail with friends or seeing live music with my partner. I enjoy travelling and eating at fun or unique restaurants so if you see me buzzing around the practice, I’d love to hear your recommendations!
